In this workshop, sculptor Carl Merten will lead you into an exciting and creative experience, using simple, easily mastered techniques to turn scrap metal into something really useful to society -- ART. There’s always plenty of informed discussion on design, available resources, tips, demonstrations and individual attention to make working with this imaginative and good humoured tutor an unforgettable experience.  Plus you get to take home your own unique sculptures for the garden and/or home. The sculpture you can make is only limited by your imagination and what you can fit into your vehicle.  Previous students taking this workshop had to borrow a truck! Open to all comers, 18 years and over. Materials fee according to project.

Carl Merten is an enthusiastic and inspirational tutor, bringing to this workshop 40 years of experience as a sculptor, silversmith, and medallic artist. So far he has completed 29 major commissions in bronze, stainless steel, aluminium, glass, and stone gracing public parks, corporate spaces, and private gardens and homes, along with numerous exhibitions. Carl is utterly committed to his work as a sculptor, and brings a great deal of integrity to his professional practice.  He is able to reduce the most complex processes to a series of easy steps that any student can follow and then duplicate to their own satisfaction.
