An Afternoon of Friendship with Artsfest Tutors and Students, Grafton High School Quadrangle, from 4.00pm
The committee is delighted to invite all those who have enrolled in a workshop to join with the tutors and committee for an afternoon of fun, enjoyment and entertainment, don’t forget to order your ticket here. The afternoon will include the introduction of tutors with the entertainment provided by the Big River Bush Band.
The Big River Bush Band is wider, deeper and stronger since regrouping in 2007. Their repertoire is growing with music from a wide range of sources being added as they go along. They will woo you with classic waltzes and the folk tunes of Eastern Europe, set your feet a-tapping with Celtic jigs and reels, and get you dancing with the circles and long sets of traditional Australian bush dances. They love to see a capacity crown raging the night away, so join them for a fun time. The Big River Bush Band features John Spencer on tenor banjo, mandolin and vocals is our dance caller, Mic Lolic on accordion, Geoff Welham on guitar, whistles and vocals, and Doug and Debbie Wray on bass and fiddle respectively. Bring a hat, a fold-up chair or rug and enjoy a real Australian afternoon tea.
You must advise the Artsfest office of special dietary requirements when ticking the box on the application form. This advice must be submitted in writing. This function is complimentary to all Artsfest tutors and students. Extra tickets may be purchased for $20.00. Please note: whilst this function is complimentary to tutors and students, you must tick the box on the Application Form to avoid disappointment. Catering numbers have to be submitted for this function and Artsfest will only be catering for the specific number of tickets that have been pre-ordered.

Artsfest comes alive to the sound of Pixie Jenkins at the Crown Hotel Motel at 7.00pm
Eat, drink and don your dancing shoes at the only riverside bistro in Grafton at The Crown Hotel. It began its days in 1842 as “Sharpes Hotel” and it is where the first Court of Petty Sessions sat in Grafton in 1843. PIXIE JENKINS – The Fiddlin’ Firecracker – Brilliant new 2008 One-Man Show at the Crown Hotel Motel from 7.00pm
Pixie Jenkins has successfully melded Australian Country Music and the finer traditions of Cabaret and Music Theatre to forge a 30 year career. With more highs than lows, he simply keeps audiences coming back for more. He has played and recorded with, or has supported some of the iconic names in entertainment such as John Williams, Bob Dylan, Cher, Jimmy Barnes, Buddy Williams, Chad Morgan, Charlie Pride, The Hired Hands, Charlie Daniels and Bullamakanka to name but a few. Over the journey Pixie has developed his one man show which includes 2 or 3 hours of an eclectic mix of Country Swing, 70’s Rock and Roll, Comedy and old time cabaret entertainment. This keeps him on the road for 50 weeks of the year playing from Darwin to Launceston and Sydney to Bourke. His nationally acclaimed solo show is a combination of edgy comedy, strong vocal delivery of a wide range of all time favourite standard songs and of course the blistering attach of his fiddle playing. Crown Hotel Motel Bistro opens at 6.00pm with blackboard menu.

Eat drink and don your dancing shoes at the beautifully restored Roches Family Hotel where their award winning bistro will open from 6.00pm. Enjoy the talents of the Country Rebels with the entertainment commencing at approx 7.00pm. For reservations phone 02 6642 2866
The Country Rebels were formed in 1977 taking over from the “Don Taubman Regaltones”, with new and fresh musicians. They are a well established Clarence Valley Band who play mostly 50/50 music, but for this night they will play a variety of music from Country to Old-Time plus anything in between and your requests will be favourably received by band members. The band includes John Howard on guitar, pedal steel, violin, alto sax and clarinet; Dot Houston – vocal and harmony; Harold Warwick – vocal, bass guitar and tenor sax; Peggy Howard – piano; Wayne Cootes – drums. They have graced the clubs and country dance halls throughout the Clarence Valley since their inception.

Students’ Exhibition and Art Auction - Grafton Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre, Powell Street, Grafton at 5.00pm
This is an evening of creativity, enjoyment and friendship not to be missed, where you will enjoy the real ambience of Artsfest. At this function tutors and students will have the opportunity to share and cross pollinate their creative ideas and experiences.
Students’ Exhibition at 5.00pm: Time to view and enjoy the visual arts exhibition. Artsfest hopes all students will participate by displaying a maximum of three items each. These items can be finished or works in progress. At this function you will be able to enjoy hors-d’oeuvres and a glass or two of bubbles. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.
Art Auction at 6.00pm: Artsfest is honoured to offer at this function a variety of small, high quality visual art works, kindly donated by the Artsfest tutors, where you will have the opportunity to purchase art from some of Australia’s artist at a fraction of gallery prices. The auction will be conducted by a professional Auctioneer and will be open for viewing from 6.00pm.
