HERMAN PEKEL – Translucent Layering & Seductive Surfaces in Acrylics

This workshop is for painters seeking a quick, direct approach. All techniques will be covered on a methodical step-by-step basis, starting with simple landscapes through to complex urban streetscapes: concentrating on tone, shapes and colour. The intention is to meet each individual exactly where they are and to support them in the production of work in the classroom that expands their practice in a personal way.

The format will lean heavily on individual instruction and will also include discussion and demonstrations of particular techniques. A step by step process will begin with a fast foundation painting and will end with final approach options that are easy to learn and thought provoking.  Unearth fresh and honest art inside yourself and learn to capture it with paint. Herman will teach you to find originality in your own work. You will learn about colour mixing, glazes, composition, drying time, thickness and edges to create an impressionist painting you never thought possible with acrylics. Expect to be challenged, to be brave, and to have fun! Herman will cover a full range of subject matter from simpler compositions of seascapes and landscapes, to street scenes, river and boat scenes.  This workshop is great for artists wanting to advance to a new level of competence in understanding acrylics; Students are encouraged to bring their own images to work from and previous work for Herman’s appraisal.  Come with an enquiring mind and be prepared to look outside the square. Under Herman’s fun approach you will experience a new and exciting challenge in every painting you attempt. Weather permitting you will spend time plein air. Students are encouraged to bring a portfolio of previous works for Herman to appraise. To enrol in this workshop you must be 18 years and over and be competent in handling the medium of acrylics.
