Each student will receive personal attention, demonstrations and critiques. Learn how to accurately see and interpret the subject, colour mixing, values, and all aspects of painting the landscape to achieve a natural feeling of light and to capture that fleeting moment in time. Painting water that looks wet requires some basic knowledge of the dynamics of how water moves and how objects are reflected in its shiny surface. Techniques will be demonstrated to address the various puzzles the artist is faced with when painting this stunning, fascinating - and yes, confusing - subject! Joseph will cover a full range of subject matter from simpler compositions of seascapes and landscapes, to street scenes, river and boat scenes. You will learn how to recognize major shapes, draw, understand tone, place figures in your work and master techniques from dry brushing to wet-in-wet. Secrets of painting into the light, creating a variety of edges from soft to hard and many other helpful hints that are designed to help you reach new heights of artistic ability will be revealed. You will be taken to some of the wonderful local painting spots for Joseph to demonstrate plein air techniques. Expect to come away with paintings that you feel are beyond the level of anything you’ve done before. Students are encouraged to bring a portfolio of previous works for Joseph to appraise. To enrol in this workshop you must be 18 years and over and be competent in handling the medium of watercolour.

He has had over 40 solo exhibitions in Australia and two in U.K. His gentle and intricate watercolours are highly regarded by art collectors and students. Joseph has recently had two exhibitions in Texas, USA and is a much sought after tutor for workshops in Europe, Canada and USA. Of his work Joseph says “my interest in painting began at a very early age. I grew up on a small farm in Europe where most of the work was done manually and in harmony with nature. I still find the landscape produced by this fine balance, the favourite subject for my paintings. I try to achieve the feeling of harmony not only in design and colour, but also in the relationship between the viewer and the painting. I find watercolour, with its gentle and subtle effects, a perfect medium to achieve this.”
