Restoring favourite pieces, especially family heirlooms, can be very rewarding. This short workshop aims to outline the basic operations in restoring damaged and/or unsound pieces. It is envisaged that each student will bring along a small (car-boot size) item in need of repair. A dining chair is suitable, as these items are very susceptible to abuse and damage, and in general their restoration will touch on all necessary techniques. The main thrust of the workshop will be on the techniques of dismantling, stripping and reconstruction to a sound condition. If time permits, the reapplication of a finish will be touched on, but upholstery would generally be outside the scope of the workshop. Open to allcomers, 16 years and over.  Contact: 02 6643 3124.

Ron Smythe has had a lifelong interest in all aspects of woodcraft; including cabinetmaking, wood turning, wood carving, the making and restoration of stringed instruments, and the restoration of furniture. He has attended numerous workshops over the years to add to his knowledge and ability, and is an experienced tutor of his crafts. Although he is now semi-retired, Ron still enjoys his crafts, particularly the challenges offered by furniture restoration, and is always eager to share his knowledge with like-minded students.

You may enrol and pay a $150.00 NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-TRANSFERABLE DEPOSIT with the final payment due by Friday March 5, 2010. Progressive payments are acceptable.
